Why You Should Register as a Freelancer

Why You Should Register as a Freelancer

A freelancer, as defined by Freelancer.com, is “a professional who offers her or his service to one or several clients at once without being obligated to any of them. Freelancers offer varied services and their work can take different forms.” Usually, freelancers are non-licensed professionals. The services they offer can vary and some examples include consultants, designers, photographers, videographers, and web designers.

While there are a number of freelancers out there, not everyone is registered, which is a shame since being registered does bring in many benefits. Here are some reasons why you should consider officially registering if you have been doing freelance work.

1.  More Opportunities

More companies are choosing to work with freelancers especially on short-term projects. However, they won’t just work with any freelancer. Aside from skill, they want to make sure that they are working with someone who can truly deliver what they are asking for. Being a registered freelancer will definitely give your potential clients the confidence and trust needed to do business.

2. Being Legit

There is nothing more legit than having official receipts with your name on it.  This may also give you the confidence to be more proactive in seeking new clients from various industries.

3. Avoiding Certain Consequences Such as Penalties or Worse, Tax Evasion

Tax evasion is a crime and is punishable by law, so you definitely want to avoid that. When it comes to paying taxes, we understand that it can be time consuming and really, not a lot of fun to do. But paying your taxes will keep your business safe and paying them on time can help you avoid certain penalties.

While it may seem overwhelming, registering oneself definitely has more advantages in the long run versus not registering at all.
